Along the way you'll cross several legendary mountain passes, including the famous Zoji La Pass at 3,528 meters (11,575 ft) — the gateway to Ladakh. The route continues through the remote, sparsely populated Ladakh region, rich with Tibetan Buddhist culture, where you can visit ancient monasteries such as Thiksey and Hemis.
The undisputed highlight is the ascent of Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world at 5,359 meters (17,582 ft). FAQ
Who is responsible for the bikes if they are damaged or stolen?
You are responsible for bike damage or theft, and you'll agree to this when you sign our contract at delivery. So please be careful!
What are the road conditions, traffic, and terrain like?
For our tours in the Kashmir and Ladakh regions, we design routes that showcase scenic, must-see spots while prioritizing safety — favoring quiet back roads over busy traffic wherever possible. Where a busy stretch is unavoidable, we choose the safest available route or bike lane. Most of our routes use paved roads and bike lanes, with some stretches of hard-packed dirt or gravel (non-technical). We stay informed on road conditions and adapt routes as needed. Please check the specific tour page for details.
What is the difficulty level of this tour?
Most tours cover no more than 65 km (40 miles) per day and range from low-intermediate to advanced difficulty. Please review the distance and difficulty details for this itinerary, along with our difficulty ratings page, for full parameters. To enjoy your tour fully, aim to ride at least weekly beforehand and be comfortable spending extended time in the saddle. Questions? Just email us.
How do I reach Srinagar?
Check our detailed blog post covering how to reach Srinagar for full travel details.
What's the climate like in Srinagar?
Mountain weather is unpredictable, but based on patterns over the last five years: August is generally pleasant, with daytime temperatures of 15°C–25°C and nights dropping to 5°C–10°C. Moving into September and October, temperatures drop significantly — especially at night — with a chance of snowfall later in October. Disclaimer: rain and snow storms can change the story.
Which type of bike is allowed?
Since this ride is designed to test endurance across mountain terrain, MTB or Gravel bicycles are required. On mountain descents, these bikes offer the stability and control needed for a safe ride.
Do you provide bikes on rent?
Yes — we provide premium Polygon MTB bikes available for rent.
